Fabulous Fakes showcases some of the most brilliant and beautiful vintage costume jewelry ever designed – from the Victorian era to the present. Curator and connoisseur Carole Tanenbaum invites you on an unforgettable tour of her private collection, complete with stunning photographs and an insider’s look at the history of costume jewelry.
Lupita Nyong'o is not just a talented Hollywood star and a beautiful face, she is also one of our favourite style icons! She has appeared in tons of magazine editorials wearing some amazing pieces and always looks striking in bright hues on the red carpet. She is not afraid of a little colour and we love it!
This fabulous exhibition features one of the most famous geishas, Ichimaru, of the 20th century by displaying a collection of her kimonos along with other person effects. She has left geishahood in the 1930's to pursue a career as a recording artist and applied her experience as a geisha while performing.
Her talent as a vocalist and musician led her to become a unique figure in the social history of the twentieth-century Japan.
Ichimaru's style and taste, along with a glimpse of the Japanese culture, is revealed through the collection of the beautifully hand-crafted kimonos.
Above is one of the Kimono's decorated with images of peonies, pheonix birds and cherry blossoms. It is decorated with gold and silk threaded embroidery; silver and gold leaf stencilling and demask figured silk satin.
From Geisha to Diva: The Kimonos of Ichimaru exhibition curated by the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is open at the Textile Museum of Canada until May 25, 2014. For more details about the exhibition visit the Textile Museum website. Stay Fabulous, Carole
