Fabulous Fakes showcases some of the most brilliant and beautiful vintage costume jewelry ever designed – from the Victorian era to the present. Curator and connoisseur Carole Tanenbaum invites you on an unforgettable tour of her private collection, complete with stunning photographs and an insider’s look at the history of costume jewelry.
In the 40s, two major costume jewelry manufacturers, Coro and Trifari, launched a line of figural brooches called jelly bellies. A major part of these highly collectible pins, often in animal form, consists of a central lucite belly. They literally stop traffic when worn. I like to group them, when I wear mine. Check out this Trifari jelly belly fly brooch.
